Almost half the speed cameras in Staffordshire are switched off, the Express & Star can reveal today.

Staffordshire Police is not using 130 out of 263 cameras in the county following cutbacks introduced over the past few months.

In the West Midlands force area, 86 out of 304 cameras are already classed as mainly dummy housings.

And a further 128 in areas deemed a low risk for accidents are no longer being "actively deployed". Police chiefs said they were being left in place as a deterrent to drivers.
